The Colorado Medical Society has come out in opposition to Colorado Proposition 135. Proposition 135 is a ballot initiative seeking to ban all insurance coverage and federal funding from covering gender affirming surgery for trans youth that will be appearing on the ballot this upcoming month.
The Colorado Medical Society, the largest organization of physicians in Colorado, agreed in its September meeting that it would be opposing the initiative. “CMS members hold diverse political views but share a core principle: medical decisions belong in the exam room,” said CMS President Sean Pauzauskie in a statement, “CMS flatly opposes interference by government or other third parties that compromise physicians’ abilities to use their medical judgment as to the information or treatment that is in the best interest of their patients.”
Meanwhile in New York, protests continue against NYC hospitals that have chosen to cease gender affirming care for youth. The protests have focused on NYU Langone and Mount Sinai, which both ended access to this care in September. The protests have also expanded to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, as that hospital is also expected to settle with the DoJ in coming days.
Amidst these protests, actor and activist Elliot Page joined in, releasing a video with Gender Liberation Movement against these hospitals’ capitulation. “New York hospital administrators chose to abandon these families and end this care because of bigoted politics,” he said, “One day, many will look back on all of this and say, ‘We should have known better.’ But we do know better right now.”
A federal judge has thrown out Riley Gaines’ Title IX lawsuit against the NCAA. The suit, filed in 2024, sought to ban all transgender participation in the NCAA and to strip all records and awards from transgender athletes. While the NCAA voluntarily opted to restrict trans participation shortly after Trump’s inauguration in 2025, the rest of the suit continued.
However, last week, U.S. District Judge Tiffany Johnson ruled that the case could not continue, finding that the NCAA did not receive federal funding, which it would need to be covered under Title IX. Riley Gaines has said on Twitter that she intends to appeal the case.
