Mainstream coverage of transgender life is falling short as an unprecedented rollback of trans people’s equal rights advances throughout the United States.
Assigned publishes factual, up to date, responsible coverage of trans issues, allowing trans people and our allies to separate the truth from the lies and build a response to the increasingly difficult conditions the trans community faces on an individual and community level.
Assigned’s founder, Evan Urquhart, is an award winning trans journalist whose work has appeared on the Atlantic, Vanity Fair, Politico, NewNowNext, Truthout, Autostraddle, and Slate. In 2025 he was a fellow at the Knight Science Journalism program at MIT.
Our first duty is to the truth, measured not by whether we provide false balance but by how well we inform our audience.

Generative AI has been hastily and sloppily incorporated into numerous newsrooms where it has no place. This has contributed to declining standards, reduced trust, and eroded the value of journalism as a field entirely distinct from mere content creation.
Although we acknowledge this technology has promise, due to the numerous practical and ethical concerns around this tech Assigned Media is currently completely AI free. This means we do not knowingly publish journalism where generative AI has been used in any way.
If an error occurs we commit to removing all content (such as stock photos or freelance essays) later shown to have been produced using AI.
Although we intend our work to remain largely AI free, as this technology matures there may be ethical use cases we have not foreseen. We commit to complete transparency around all future AI use and to updating this policy to reflect any changes that may occur.

Assigned Media retains full authority over editorial content to protect the best journalistic and business interests of our organization. Acceptance of financial support does not constitute implied or actual endorsement of donors or their products, services or opinions.
We accept gifts, grants and sponsorships from individuals and organizations for the general support of our activities, but our news judgments are made independently and not on the basis of donor support.
Assigned Media may consider donations to support the coverage of particular topics, but our organization maintains editorial control of the coverage. We will cede no right of review or influence of editorial content, nor of unauthorized distribution of editorial content.
Our organization will make public all donors who give a total of $5,000 or more per year. We will accept anonymous donations for general support only if it is clear that sufficient safeguards have been put into place that the expenditure of that donation is made independently by our organization and in compliance with INN’s Membership Standards.
