Send Assigned Media to DC
With your help, Assigned plans to go to DC to cover an upcoming Supreme Court case.
On December 4, the US Supreme Court will hear United States vs Skrmetti, a case that will decide if the constitution allows necessary, lifesaving healthcare to be banned if the people who need it are a persecuted minority.
This historic moment will see protests as trans people converge to tell the country and the world their lives matter. It will see counter protesters determined to portray the trans community as evil, twisted, and against nature. It will see the first transgender lawyer to argue in front of the Supreme Court, the ACLU's Chase Strangio, and a far-right dominated Supreme Court, one shadowed in recent years by questions about its legitimacy, struggling to maintain an air of impartiality and balance.
We at Assigned plan to cover these events and protests. At a time like this, having independent transgender media is more important than ever. So, we’re going to Washington, to the Supreme Court, to cover the moment.
Evan Urquhart will lead a team of transgender journalists who will cover events as they happen. This means person-on-the-street interviews of protesters and others with a local DC-area trans journalist; as well as photography by our very own Piper, who you may know as the artist for our Clippings articles. With your support, we’ll even have video, and launch a presence for Assigned Media on YouTube and TikTok.
Yesterday, we posted a campaign on Funrazr to ensure we could pay our journalists and get the equipment we need for this coverage. The response has been tremendous already, with over $6000 raised in small donations. We’re definitely going, but we have our sights set on the full $10K goal, to add video to our efforts, and a second day for the DC trip so we can have even more one-on-one interviews so that we can have the most comprehensive coverage possible.
We need your help to make this all happen, and we need it quickly because we’re already having to order equipment and get travel tickets to make it to DC by the 3rd of December. Give generously, support your independent trans media, and let us ensure trans voices are heard and trans reporters are telling trans stories..
Here’s that link again, and thank you.
