Daily Wire Reports Matt Walsh (NOT THAT ONE) Joins Dancing With the Stars

A different Matt Walsh, one who isn’t famous for being an anti-trans loon, will appear in the next season of the long-running celebrity dance show.

On the far-right Daily Wire today a headline proclaimed that Matt Walsh will be on ABC’s dancing with the stars. That’s right, Matt Walsh, the far-right influencer responsible for the anti-trans documentary “What is a Woman” will… wait, no, we’re getting word that it’s not THAT Matt Walsh, it’s the Emmy-nominated Veep actor and founding member of the Upright Citizen’s Brigade sketch comedy troupe Matt Walsh. Whew. Daily Wire, you rascals, you really had us going for a minute there.

The Daily Wire’s brief story, which starts by mentions a few of the other stars who have been named as contestants then summarizes Walsh’s career, seems to be trading on the familiarity of Daily Wire readers with the other Matt Walsh. However, it’s not the first time the Daily Wire has run a story highlighting a single contestant joining DWTS. Last year the same writer, Amanda Harding, highlighted the inclusion of Shangela, the first drag queen to have been named to the show. In that story, Harding raised questions about whether it was appropriate for a fully clothed queen to dance on a TV program that would be viewable by kids.

While Twitter was full of gushing reviews, some viewers pointed out that having a drag queen contestant on "Dancing With the Stars," which is rated PG and popular with children, was not appropriate.

Harding’s beat for the Daily Wire appears to be culture-war barrel scrapings from stories about Candice Owens criticizing a TikToker on a right-wing podcast to a model saying it’s ‘chic’ to be divorced. We hope Harding had fun with today’s story, misleading readers who only read the headline that an anti-trans culture warrior would be participating in Dancing With the Stars.
