Times Contributors Pen Open Letter Condemning NYT Bias on Trans Youth

The paper of record’s shockingly poor coverage of gender affirming treatment for youth continues to draw condemnation, this time by over 170 of its own contributors.

The shocking bias against trans youth exhibited by the paper of record has not gone unnoticed by many of its own contributors. Over 170 individuals, all of whom have been published by the Times, signed an open letter condemning the pseudoscience and prejudice which has tarnished the Times reputation for impartiality and helped fuel efforts to ban gender affirming care for youth.

The letter highlighted specific examples of articles which failed to inform readers of the wider context around an issue, at times even hiding the organizational affiliations of named sources.

The letter’s signatories included high profile trans writers such as Chelsea Manning, Charlie Jane Anders, Torrey Peters, and Andrea Long Chu, as well as cisgender writers including Roxane Gay, Ed Yong, and Osita Nwanevu.
