FOX Covers Resignation of UK Trustee More Seriously than Senate Candidate

The right wing giant seems to pick and choose which pedophiles it finds troubling.

FOX has the story of a trustee who has stepped down from his role on the board of a UK charity today. Although it might seem strange for a US media outlet like FOX News, not known for its coverage of the minutae international affairs, has reported on such a story at all, the trustee in question worked for Mermaids, a UK nonprofit that provides services, support, and advocacy for transgender youth.

The charity, which has advocated for transgender youth in the UK since 2015, had been targeted by an intense smear campaign in the tabloid press well before these present revelations. However, news that a trustee had once given a speech to an organization that supports pedophiles has resulted in such intense harassment from enraged transphobes that, according to a tweet from Mermaids’ official account, that they felt the need cancel support services through the end of this week.

To better place FOX’s coverage of this into context, Assigned took a quick look back at some of the coverage FOX had of GOP Senatorial Candidate Roy Moore, who was accused in 2017 of sexually assaulting a 14 year old girl. While we won’t claim to have been exhaustive in our search, we found surprisingly few items on FOX dealing with the very serious charges against the Republican. Curiously, in the few examples we could turn up, a panelist was usually involved who defended Moore from the allegations. So somehow, despite the accusations against Moore being far more serious than giving a speech, FOX seems to find the resignation of a UK charity trustee more newsworthy.

Could this be because they can use it to add fuel to the false narrative that transgender people are threatening youth in some way? We report, you decide.
