Conspiracy Alert: Elliot Page Starved, Drugged, Forced to Be Trans by Trainer

Sometimes it’s fun to just gawk at how unhinged transphobic propaganda can be. Right guys? Er… right??

Typically, Assigned covers stories in the right wing media that can, at least loosely, be considered commentary, analysis, or news. It’s typically extremely biased, lacking context, with key facts omitted or even just plain wrong, but it’s still broadly speaking news content. This item is not that. It’s pure conspiracy, made up from whole cloth.

The above screenshot comes from a site called PopTopic, a website which claims to cover pop culture. (As always we are including our sources, but do not suggest you click through to this page.) PopTopic has very little outside information about it that I could find, but appears to be on the farthest of the right wing fringe. The “story” provides no evidence to support the idea that Elliot Page was forced to transition, but it does include a full-throated defense of Kanye West’s anti-semitic remarks.

We share this, not just to laugh at it (although it’s pretty out there!) but also because it’s clear the extreme right fringe have grown used to absorbing speculation and conspiracy as if it were news. That’s… really bad. We all should be aware of how fringe the fringe has grown, and the role of transphobia in radicalizing people on the far right.
