TDOV Coincides With Easter Sunday, Conservatives Dismayed

Ian Miles Cheong and the Washington Examiner are trying to make a scandal out of the coincidence of dates.

A contributor to the Washington Examiner (a right-wing tabloid) is very upset about the date of Easter Sunday, which just so happens to fall on Transgender Day of Visibility this year. In an opinion piece, Stephanie Lundquist-Arora noted that the board of supervisors for Fairfax County in Virginia this year voted to formally recognize TDOV, which is traditionally celebrated on March 31st. This made Lundquist-Arora spitting mad, declaring Easter had been hijacked! Hijacked!

Not only have transgender activists hijacked Easter by choosing a date that happens to fall within the range of dates Easter Sunday can also occur, the Christian holiday is also “being desecrated” by the visible existence of trans people, at least according to the Washington Examiner piece.

That’s right, by choosing a date that sometimes coincides with Easter, trans activists have hijacked and desecrated the most Christian holiday of all, the day Jesus came back from the dead in a miracle given to the people of the Earth to share his message of love, peace, and no-trans-allowed.

In fact, folklore among the Pennsylvania Dutch has it that seeing a trans person makes Jesus turn around back into his tomb and declare six more weeks of winter. Or, wait… hmmm… that doesn’t quite seem right. Please don’t quote us on that. We might have confused the Christian lord and savior with Punxsutawney Phil.

It’s not clear where Lundquist-Arora got the goofy idea that TDOV was purposefully placed on Easter Sunday, but notable right-wing personality Ian Miles Cheong did make a similar false claim on March 14, implying on Twitter that Transgender Day of Visibility had been recently created with the intent of replacing easter and that “Easter is no more.”

Traditionally celebrated on the first Sunday after the Paschal full moon, Easter can fall on any date between March 22 and April 25. In 2009, when TDOV was created, Easter was celebrated on April 12. This year marks the second time TDOV has coincided with Easter Sunday thus far, the first having been in 2013.

The next time the two dates coincide will be on March 31, 2086.
